Book Presentation: Tourism in Greece
25.08.2020
It is unknown and at the same time interesting, because for 90 years Fred Boissona's book "Tourism in Greece", while published in French, translated into English, German, Spanish, had not been translated into Greek until today, as far as Greece is concerned. It is therefore an anniversary, but also a paradoxical occasion, the period of the global pandemic, which shakes tourism both globally and in our country as the main wealth resource of Greece, repositioning it at the base of the tour, known in the past. centuries Grand Tour (rich or students after the Renaissance), that is, the search for knowledge, in the context of a cosmopolitan spirit. The translators, Konstantinos Tsaklidis and Charalambos Papaioannou, translated the French text into Greek, working voluntarily and with passion. They suggested and we chose the title "The Greece of the traveler", a title that we consider to more fully and more accurately represent the French original "Le Tourisme en Grece".

With this book, Bouasona and Bovi record step by step their experience and through this the formation of the foundations of Greek tourist tourism, as well as hiking in the Greek mountains at the beginning of the 20th century. Both activities were largely unknown at the time still in Greece. Modern leisure tourism (mass in the sense that it is not the privilege of the few) began in the 1920s with the introduction of annual leave in England and France, ended with World War II and resumed after that, at the same time as the creation of of a united Europe and the UN. Especially the Greek lover Bouasona, whose other books as well as his famous photographs have been presented to the Greek public, leaves with this book - which was a pending issue for Greece - the indelible mark of the Greekness of the mountain, the landscape, the tour. , mountaineering, in memory of all of us and future generations. We hope, we in the next country of travel and learning, in the mountains of Zagori, Epirus and Greece, freedom, volunteerism-charity and a world, that with our humble contribution we put another stone in the sketch of personality and the work of Bouason, but also of Greece at the beginning of the 20th century.

With this book, Boussona and Beauvais come into the current of late European philhellenism, not only like the trends of the previous 1-2 centuries (interest in the experience and research of indigenous cultures and populations around the world by Westerners), but emerging European identity and a little later in European unity.

George Hairetis contributed to this publication with the valuable financial contribution for the coming country.
